Well to understand The Southern Bostonian the shop you have to know who THE actual Southern Bostonian is. My name is Kristina and I was born and raised in Boston and other parts of Massachusetts. Growing up I was constantly with my gramma Besse, and we would always be on some sort of shopping adventure or creating something amazing. This is where my love for antiques and passion to create began. I was in corporate America running a bunch of restaurants for over 15 years before I decided to venture out to do something that sparked my true passions and had meaning. I started in 2020 when I opened a vendor booth to sell refinished furniture, vintage and antique items. I was satisfied for short period of time but wanted to showcase my items in an space like no other so I set out to create that environment for myself and others, and here is where The Southern Bostonian started in November of 2020. I opened in a small 1,000 sqft store front in Smithfield, NC. We quickly outgrew our footprint, and 9 months later moved to our current location in quaint Downtown Selma, NC with 4,000 sqft and over 20 local vendors. We would later expand in May of 2022 to take over an additional adjoining building of 2,000 sqft for our DIY studio and laser wood designs for a grand total of 6,000 sqft of pure and unique awesomeness.

When developing my gameplan for the shop I wanted a place that completely surrounded you with happiness and memories of our loved ones. I wanted to be surrounded by great music that gets you tapping your feet, sweet and savory smells from great quality candles, and a space that was full enough that you have to explore high and low but not stuffy and overwhelming. I wanted my shop to be a place you go with your closest girlfriends, your family, co-workers or just yourself, and you get lost in the experience as a whole. I am lucky enough that my husband David is now able to be on this wild journey of owning a small business with me, and we truly enjoy what we do, and feel extremely blessed. We're proud to offer a variety of items from Antiques & Vintage, to Farmhouse, Primitives, Mid-Century Modern, and everything in between. We also offer a wide variety of new retail home decor, graphic tees, candles, and a robust pantry selection. We have a terrific gallery space where we feature 3 local artists, and a photographers art. We aim to offer a unique shopping experience with a great variety of new, old and artisan goods with a team of people of who are truly welcoming and down to earth.

We're also proud to offer Wicked Brews & Brushes DIY Studio, workshop, and laser wood designs. We're Johnston County's only Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® stockist and offer a variety of workshops from refinishing family heirloom furniture & raw new pieces to DIY door hangers, tiered trays and decor. We offer workshops on a weekly schedule and the ability to reserve time for a private party or event.
